Eye Update

If you recall I suffered from burst blood vessel or Subconjunctival Haemorrage in my left eye about a week ago.

You can read the post about it here.

Well the good news is that the eye seems to be healing nicely. All signs of a burst blood vessel have gone and the eye looks nearly normal. It does feel a little different to how it did but I think it just needs more healing time.

I just hope it was a one off and not a sign of something else 🤞.

Subconjunctival Hemorrhage

Yesterday afternoon I was doing a few odds and ends on my laptop when I started to develop a headache and I also felt some irritation in my left eye. Sometimes I get visual aura’s which are accompanied by migraine type headaches but this felt a little different.

My bloodshot eye!

Because of the irritation in my eye I decided to have a look at it in the mirror and when I did I could see that my left eye was very bloodshot and so I gave Barbara a shout and she had a look as well and we agreed that we needed to do something.

We decided to phone the GP but they could not help and suggested we go to see a pharmacist which we did. The pharmacist said it was something called a Subconjunctival Hemorrhage and that it would heal itself over the coming days, he felt that we should not apply any medication, eyedrops or anything else and so we took his advice and headed home.

From the web, the discription of a Subconjunctival Haemorrage is below.

A broken blood vessel in the eye may look alarming, but it’s usually harmless. A subconjunctival hemorrhage (sub-kun-JUNK-tih-vul HEM-uh-ruj) occurs when a tiny blood vessel breaks just underneath the clear surface of your eye (conjunctiva). In many ways, it’s just like having a bruise on your skin.

I am not sure what may have caused this, I don’t recall any trauma or heavy sneezing or coughing. I am also a little surprised at how quickly it appeared!

By the time we got home I had a throbbing headache and chose to lie down for a few hours, we were supposed to be going out for dinner in the evening and I hoped lying in the darkness might help with the headache.

I am writing this on the following day and while the headache has eased the eye looks about the same, and I actually think it probably looks worse than it is and of course it is slightly shocking when you look in the mirror and see a red eye.

Hopefully over the next few days it will start to get better and will start to look more normal.
